Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail 

New Zealand’s highest mountain – Aoraki/Mt Cook – is just one unforgettable sight on this epic trail from the Southern Alps to the Pacific Ocean.

Known as the ‘A20’, this legendary and longest of the Great Rides takes in some of Aotearoa’s most famous landscapes – from the Southern Alps’ and Mackenzie Country’s peaks, lakes and glaciated valleys, through the Waikati Valley with its amazing braided river and ancient rock forms. Bike the whole way or enjoy day rides featuring fantastic activities such as such as hiking, hot tubs, star-gazing and Oamaru’s Steampunk HQ, and savour delicious local fare including freshwater salmon, game, craft beer and Waitaki wine.

West Coast Wilderness Trail

With its ancient rainforests, hidden lakes, rugged Tasman Sea coast and backdrop of the mighty Southern Alps, the West Coast Wilderness Trail is a breath of fresh air that will leave you energised and inspired.

Full of natural drama, this Great Ride is a leisurely journey following historic pathways through deep forest and quiet countryside, alongside spectacular rivers and wetlands, and between a series of peaceful settlements rich in human history. As well lots of easy day ride options, convenient bike hire and shuttles, it also has plenty of characterful pubs, cafes and comfortable accommodation so you can take a ride on the wild side with all the comforts of home.

Around the Mountains Cycle Trail

Spectacular Southern Alps scenery and Lord-Of-The-Rings-worthy landscapes make the Around the Mountains a contender for Aotearoa New Zealand’s most gorgeous Great Ride. 

This long but leisurely trail traverses majestic mountain country around Queenstown, and passes through a series of rural heartland towns, overflowing with authentic Deep South hospitality. Offering mostly easy riding on wide, well-graded paths, the full trail is best enjoyed as a 4–5 day journey, although magical day-ride options abound such as the Fly, Ride, Dine and Cruise that includes a super-scenic, flight and a cruise across Lake Wakatipu on the historic TSS Earnslaw steamship. Adventure tour companies in Queenstown and Southland can provide all necessary services including, bike hire, shuttle transport and accommodation.
