WINNERS of the Great Rides Summer Photo Comp

Published 2023-01-27

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who entered our Ngā Haerenga Great Rides of New Zealand Summer Photo Competition. We received heaps of brilliant entries, which left us inspired, uplifted and keen to get out on our bikes with friends and whānau!

AND THE WINNER IS...

Jenna Phillips for her fantastic shot snapped on Central Otago's Lake Dunstan Trail during her recent South Island holiday. We  love seeing happy families out enjoying the Great Rides. Congratulations Jenna, we hope you enjoy your $500 accommodation voucher from our national partner Holiday Parks New Zealand. Please keep tagging us in when you're out on the Great Rides (#greatrideofnz; @nzcycletrail on Instagram and Facebook).

Smiles for miles on the Lake Dunstan Trail (Jenna Phillips).

RUNNERS-UP

Our competition runners-up, and winners of the latest edition of The New Zealand Cycle Trails book by the Kennett Brothers, are David Haunschmidt and Rez Mohammed. Congratulations!

We loved David's photo taken on the Fishers Track, part of the Mountains to Sea Ngā Ara Tūhono Great Ride. We think it captures this classic New Zealand mountain biking adventure beautifully, drawing the viewer in and making us want to pack up our bikes and head to beautiful Ruapehu.

The beautiful green landscape of the Fishers Track – a mountain biking classic (David Haunschmidt).

Rez Mohammed's beaming, infectious smile warmed the hearts of the judging panel who all picked this as one of their favourites. Howling wind and rain were no barrier to fun times as she towed her toddler through the Karangahake Gorge on the Hauraki Rail Trail.

Have bike, will travel and have fun whatever the weather (Rez Mohammed).

Enjoy your books – no doubt they will provide you with a whole heap of biking inspiration!

(SOME OF) THE BEST OF THE REST

With so many great photos entered we had to share some of other favourites.

Starry night on the Remutaka Cycle Trail

Beautiful bikepacking night-shot on the Remutaka Cycle Trail (Sandeep Gajadhar).

The wheelie great Queen Charlotte Track

Great skills but questionable PPE on the Queen Charlotte Track (Ross Dummett).

And last but not least... A special mention goes to Ken and Laura from Singapore who cycled many of the South Island's cycle trails on their recent trip to New Zealand, planning their adventures using our website and the Great Rides App. While they're not eligible for this competition's prizes, we'd like to say a big THANK YOU for sharing your wonderful photos – they are truly epic! You can see more of their cycling adventures on Instagram (@trouble_w_laura and @adventurenomad). We look forward to welcoming them back when return to knock off some of the North Island's Great Rides
