As cycling writers, Lee and I bike together all the time. But we’ve never ridden a tandem – that’d probably lead to the divorce court. I’m a ‘slow and flow’ kind of rider, while Lee’s considerably less stylish but much more effective. He kicks my ass.

Lee stops to take photos every five minutes, and often asks me to be his model. This drives me bonkers, especially when I’m grinding uphill in granny-gear, my face a sweaty red mess. Smiling at the camera doesn’t seem like a priority. So that explains all those Bennett & Slater bum shots.

We’ve cycled all 22 Great Rides together and many more besides. We seldom tire of each other’s company on the trails – bike riding is our happy place. In fact, I’d go so far as to say it’s one of the greatest joys in my life.
