Queen Charlotte Track's Hidden Secrets
These hidden secrets will take your Queen Charlotte Track adventures to the next level.
Be wowed by a waterfall
Kick off or top off your Queen Charlotte Track ride with a trip to the hidden falls near Meretoto / Ship Cove. This small, but beautifully formed waterfall makes a great photo-op, and refreshing dip on a hot day.
Directions: This beautiful cascade is reached via the signposted Meretoto / Ship Cove Waterfall Track – a 30-minute return walk from the bay.

These pretty falls are well worth the 30-minute return walk (Marlborough NZ).
Eatwell's Lookout – arguably the best view in the whole Sounds
This short, sharp detour rewards with one of the best views in the entire Marlborough Sounds. The lookout, 467m above sea-level, is named after local legend Rod Eatwell who is considered to be the grandfather of the Kenepuru walkway that later became part of the Queen Charlotte Track.
Pedal up the hill if you've the strength and stamina, or park your bike at the junction and walk up to the lookout. Either way, you won't be disappointed with what awaits you. Don't forget your camera and picnic, but beware of the weka who like to share your lunch!
Directions: The lookout is on the Camp Bay to Torea Saddle section of this Great Ride, around the 34km mark.

Eatwell's Lookout – a fantastic photo-op you have to earn (Marlborough NZ).
Take a dip at Davies Bay
Davies Bay Campsite is a beautiful spot to loll around or dip a toe in the Sounds' sparkling waters. Even though it's right beside the trail, it's easily missed by walkers and bikers who scoot on through to Anakiwa, the track's western trailhead, to catch their boat back to Picton. If you're ahead of schedule, pull up a pew or laze on the grass, and rest and reflect before rejoining humanity.
Directions: Davies Bay is on the Torea Bay to Anakiwa section of this Great Ride (approximately 3km from Anakiwa).

Davies Bay – a lovely place to lounge around (Lee Slater).
