Around The Basin are the most experienced team at getting riders on the Queenstown Trail network. They provide quality bike and E-bike hire, winery rides, half or full-day options, and even supported tours for groups, all packaged together with a personalised Kiwi-flavour.
They aim to give every level of riders the opportunity to experience the spectacular Queenstown Trail network, giving you the tools for an epic ride. Here are just some of the experiences on offer:
Bike The Wineries Rides
There are three self-guided winery rides to choose from: Full-Day – with plenty of time to relax, unwind and explore Arrowtown and the wineries in the Gibbston Valley; 3/4-Day – a great mix of riding and time to explore the cellar doors with a later start time; and a Half-Day option – for those who only have time for an afternoon of riding. All of these options allow you to bike at your leisure through stunning Central Otago wine country, with opportunities for wine tastings, food platters, or a restaurant lunch amongst the vines. We’ll collect you from a wherever you like in the Gibbston Valley for the shuttle transfer back to Queenstown. We also provide you with a detailed winery map and can collect any wine purchases you make.
Cost: from $90 adult
Duration: Full-day, 3/4-day or half-day options; 9–25km
Arrowtown to Queenstown: A Mountain Biking Adventure
This popular ride starts with a scenic 20 minute shuttle to Arrowtown. We’ll set you up with your bike or E-bike, and a trail map, so you're ready to set-off on your self-guided adventure ride. From Arrowtown the trail follows the Arrow River, crossing over suspension bridges, towards the Morven Ferry. From here the choice is yours: either add a diversion to the Kawarau Suspension Bridge - the world home of bungy jumping - or follow the Twin Rivers Trail along the Kawarau and Shotover rivers to the shores of Lake Whakatipu. The trail now undulates along the lake's edge, passing a few cafés and even a brewery, before the finish line back at our shop in central Queenstown. E-Bike upgrades are recommended to make the hills a breeze.
Cost: from $90 adult
Duration: allow a full day; minimum distance is 35km
Arrowtown to Gibbston Valley
This ride begins with a scenic shuttle from Queenstown through to the historic, gold-mining village of Arrowtown. From here hop on your bike and join the trail that follows the beautiful Arrow river downstream to its confluence with the Kawarau river. You’ll ride across two spectacular suspension bridges, before joining the original gold-miner's trail that crosses the Kawarau Suspension Bridge - home of the world's first bungy jump. Finish your ride with a relaxed wine tasting in the Gibbston Valley, before your return shuttle back to Queenstown. A detailed map and navigation tips are given at the start of the ride.
Cost: from $90 adult
Duration: allow a half day; 15km
Bike and E-bike Hire
Make the most of your time in Queenstown and get out exploring the trails on a bike. From central Queenstown the trail follows the shores of Lake Whakatipu out to Frankton. From there the choice is yours: head out on the Kelvin Peninsula Trail towards Jack's Point, or join the Twin Rivers Trail towards the historic Old Shotover Bridge. The wide, gravel trails are off-road and away from traffic. Expect to see spectacular river gorges and majestic mountains while you ride. Around The Basin offers bike and E-bike hire for a half-day, a full-day, or even for multiple days from their shop in central Queenstown (9 Duke Street). Their fleet of bikes are serviced regularly and in top condition.
Cost: from $40 adult
Duration: half-day (4 hours) or Full Day (8 hours)
