Tasman's Great Taste Trail Closed due to Flooding

TRAIL SAFETY UPDATE: Tasman’s Great Taste Trail

DATE: 1 February 2018

ISSUE: Please note the entire Trail is closed until further notice. This is due to the extreme weather event in the Nelson region which has caused widespread flooding.

We will provide updates as we receive them. Thank you.

Storm Damage Update – 2 February 2018
Tasman’s Great Taste Trail is still closed while assessments are being done today. If you wish to cycle from Richmond to Landsdowne Road, please follow the detour map.

The Mapua Ferry is closed until further notice until the debris is cleared from the estuary and the Trail and Ferry landings are assessed.

Storm Damage Update – 3 February 2018

It is expected that the section of Great Taste Trail between Richmond Deviation and Lansdowne Rd will be closed for a number of weeks. The Nelson/Tasman Cycle Trails Trust is working with Tasman District Council to decide a strategy to reinstate this section of trail as soon as possible. In the meantime please use Lower Queen Street. The Trail is also closed along Whakatu Drive between the Honest Lawyer and the Aquatic Centre.

The inland section of trail from Lansdowne Rd to Rabbit Island is OPEN and the Mapua ferry will be operating again from Sunday 4th February. We advise riders to also avoid the section of trail along the Mapua foreshore and instead continue directly along Aranui Rd and Stafford Drive shared path until Pine Hill Road.

From Pine Hill Road to Motueka the Great Taste Trail is OPEN to riders. Coastal sections of Trail between Motueka and Kaiteriteri have significant debris and some section are still closed. We will be working to clear this today.

Inland sections of the trail from Richmond to Wakefield and the Spooners tunnel are fine and OPEN.
