Pakihi Track Open

TRAIL SAFETY UPDATE: Motu Trails (Pakihi Track)

DATE: 20 July 2018

ISSUE:  The Pakihi Track is open again

A big thank-you to the DOC team who re-cut the track across the 40-metre-wide slip face, they have done a great job.

The track over the slip is cut about 1-1.2 metres wide. The surface will take a while to pack down, so you may well wish to walk over this section. You should definitely stop and look anyway, the outlook is impressive.

Overall, the Pakihi Track is in good condition. However, this has been a wet winter. The Pakihi doesn’t really get muddy but be cautious about the track surface being slippery in places.

You must walk at least a couple of sections below the hut but these are clearly signed. You may well want to walk other sections too, depending what you are comfortable with.

As always, the Pakihi is not a track to rush! Take your time, enjoy the majesty — and the awe — of nature.
