Timber Trail Temporary Forestry Diversion

Hancock Forestry have informed DOC of a necessary temporary closure of the Southern end of the Timber Trail (77km to 84km mark) due to forestry harvesting activities.  The closure is required to ensure the health and safety of trail users.

To minimise impacts on trail users and business operators, a temporary diversion and carpark (approximately 1km from the Ngakonui – Ongarue Rd intersection) for cyclist pick ups have been established.  Strategic signage has been installed to demarcate the closed area, diversion, and temporary car park area.

The temporary diversion and carpark have been developed in consultation with Te Rongoroa Trust, Hancock Forestry, neighbouring landowners, and Ruapehu District Council.  It is important that trail users respect these areas and follow the signage.

The diversion route is unlikely to be busy with logging trucks after 3pm daily however cyclists should take care and ride single file. Logging truck drivers have been advised to take extra care for cyclists.

Dates of diversion:

4th & 5th January 2018

8th –  12th January 2018

15th – 19th January 2018

22nd – 26th January 2018

The Trail will be open without diversion during the weekends of 6-7 / 13-14 / 20-21 January 2018. DOC will place and remove signage to manage weekend users.
