TRAIL SAFETY UPDATES:  Otago Central Rail Trail

DATE: 26 July 2017 (9 July 2018 – N.B There are no longer any diversions or issues relating to this notice from 2017)

KOKONGA WASHOUT TEMPORARY TRACK IN PLACE

Further to the Trail Safety Update for Kokonga near the 107 km marker, the Department of Conservation (DOC) have put a temporary route around the washout. It is possible to ride around the washout as a temporary track has been cleared around it i.e. there is no need to divert along the road. Staff expect to complete graveling the temporary track today. This will remain in place until a permanent solution is determined.   The timing for the permanent fix is unknown as yet.

DUNEDIN RAILWAYS UPDATE

The train will not be running for some time.  There are washouts and slips through the gorge and this is still be accessed.   We will be working to get this all fixed up but we still have not accessed all of the gorge.  Repair work is likely to run into the scheduled maintenance period so it may be up to a month of closure and no services through the gorge.  We are endeavouring to contact all our customers to advise them but this also may take some time.  For further information please see their Facebook page or phone: 03 477 4449.
