Tour Aotearoa

Tour Aotearoa

Tour Aotearoa is one of the world’s great bike-packing adventures. Stretching 3,000km from Cape Reinga to Bluff it follows a combination of cycle trails, tracks, paths and lanes connected by the most enjoyable country roads available.

Tour Aotearoa is designed by Jonathan Kennett, a New Zealand cycling historian and guidebook writer. He launched Tour Aotearoa in February 2016 by organising a 3000 kilometre Brevet from Cape Reinga to Bluff along a route designed to highlight New Zealand (and avoid heavy traffic).

The Tour Aotearoa route uses the best cycling infrastructure that exists in New Zealand. It includes many New Zealand Cycle Trail Great Rides and Heartland Rides (cycle touring routes), as well as quiet back country roads. In February and March 2018 the Tour Aotearoa Brevet rides again. And it’s been so popular that the set departures for 2018 are already full and expressions of interest are now being taken for the 2020 Brevet.

Practical information regarding route, training, when to ride, trail surfaces, accommodation, registration, rules and some great stories from 2016 can all be found on the official Tour Aotearoa website.

The Tour Aotearoa route may be ridden at any time, however riders must prepare their journey thoroughly, particularly transport requirements for water crossings.
