Introducing Rob Miller, the new Partnership Specialist for the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail.

Rob joined Tourism Waitaki in mid October, which has been something of a homecoming having grown up on a farm in North Otago. For the last 29 years Rob has been living in the UK, working primarily in the event marketing and promotion business, where the number one criteria was to create memorable experiences and generate emotional connections to brands.

Now Rob’s ‘brand’ is the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail. He sees his role as ‘working with our Official Partners in making their customers’ experiences not just memorable but Great! Of course we have the best scenery in the country which helps, but I may just be a little biased…’

The recent A2O Summit at Lake Ohau Lodge was an ideal opportunity for Rob to meet some of the Official A2O Partner community. ‘A lot of really good ideas came out of that, and we are doing our best to implement these over the coming months.’

One of these ideas was the need for better communication with Partners and the general public, and this has been a focus since then. Picking up on the NZCT theme of ‘supporting the businesses that support the trail’, Rob has been encouraging Partners to share their details, and another networking event is planned to strengthen the sense of community and build even better working relationships.

Another common theme of the summit was the desire to see the trail 100 per cent off the road. This is an understandable and laudable goal, and thanks to the contractor (under the supervision of Hamish Seaton), work is well underway on constructing more off-road sections between Aviemore Dam and Kurow. Rob says, ‘plans for the next section of build will be announced as soon as everything is finalised.’
