$2.4 Million for Tasman’s Great Taste Trail

$2.4 million for Tasman's Great Taste Trail

Tasman’s Great Taste Trail has been granted $2.4m in funding for it to be extended and upgraded to a multi-day ride.

The investment is the first major deployment of the Nga Haerenga, the New Zealand Cycle Trail: Enhancement and Extension Fund, which provides up to $6m annually for extending and improving the Great Rides.

The new extension will make the Trail a 2-4 day ride that links accommodation, food and beverage outlets, beaches, vineyards, National Parks, heritage sites and arts and crafts producers.

The trail is to be extended by about 40km south between Wakefield and Woodstock. Other sections would be upgraded, including 33km between Woodstock and Brooklyn.

The Enhancement and Extension Fund would also fund high priority safety projects at Otago’s Roxburgh Gorge Trail and the Waikato River Trail.

The government would provide up to $120,000 to replace the steep ending of the Roxburgh Gorge Trail with a switchback trail that would be easier to ride and up to $99,000 would go to improving the Waikato River Trails between Whakamaru and Atiamuri.
