If you’re keen to explore the idea of a manageable back-country ride, take a look at the super new Timber Trail website and learn a little more about one of New Zealand’s best mountain bike wilderness adventures.

Since opening in 2013, the 84km Timber Trail through the Pureora Forest in the central North Island has become a bucket list ride for mountain bikers. The good news is it’s a Grade 2 cycle trail which can also be enjoyed by beginners and families.

Joining two old logging tramways which showcase remnants of the great forests of Rimu, Totara, Miro, Matai and Kahikatea that once dominated the area along with eight spectacular suspension bridges, the Timber Trail has enjoyed spectacular success with around 6,000 happy riders experiencing the trail every summer.

The new website is geared up to help riders obtain all the information required for easy and enjoyable adventures in this remote but special part of the North Island.  You can read up on Pureora’s remarkable ecology, the spectacular suspension bridges and other unique features. There’s also a section on commercial tour operators, accommodation providers, dining options and other services to help you plan your trip.
