DoC funding spins wheels for Motu Trails Trust

Fantastic news announced today with another positive boost confirmed for the Motu Trails Charitable Trust, with funding support from the Department of Conservation. The Trust, which promotes the Motu Trails and activities associated with them, will receive $15,000 funding under DOC’s Community Conservation Partnerships Fund, Putea Tautiaki Hapori.

Funding will support the Trust to further encourage community participation in conservation and recreation, and build awareness of historic and cultural highlights linked to the trails.

Along with co-ordinating and promoting community planting activities on the Dunes Trail, the Trust has been able to build visitor numbers on the back-country Pakihi Track to a point that exceeds the number visiting more accessible sites such as the Tauranga Bridge in the Waioeka Gorge.

The Motu Trails are supported nationally, locally and regionally and already generating the social and economic benefits the trails are intended to deliver.

If it’s not already on your Bucket List, you’d best put Opotiki on the map!
