Cycle Touring Routes

The first cycle touring routes under Nga Haerenga, The New Zealand Cycle Trail (NZCT) are now open. These are the first in a series of new rides to be included under the NZCT, as part of the Network Expansion Project.

The Network Expansion Project aims to develop an expanded network of rides, creating links between the Great Rides, other key tourist attractions, urban centres and transport hubs throughout New Zealand. This will involve mapping and signposting existing roads and cycle paths to create a nationwide cycling network that caters for a wide range of cycling abilities and interests.  It aims to encourage cyclists away from busy state highways and arterial routes, while at the same time spreading the economic benefits of cycle tourism to regional New Zealand.
